Special Educational Needs Department (SEND)

Our Special Educational Needs Program is designed to provide academic intervention and support for children with specific learning challenges. Teachers refer students who are struggling academically. Students are assessed using both curriculum-based assessments and standardised tests by our SEND team to determine their learning challenge and academic areas of need. An Individualised Education Plan is written, and students receive specialised instruction in their specific areas of need. Instruction is on a one-to-one basis or in small groups. A variety of effective teaching strategies are used to actively engage the student in learning and practise of important skills. Building confidence through successful learning experiences is key to the program. Confidence and motivation combined with effective instruction is the fuel behind academic success.
