Welcome to Key Stage 2
Key stage 2 (KS2) classes are located around our shaded and leafy Upper School courtyard. The two classes in each year group from Years 3 to 6 share the courtyard with the school hall, computer room, library and school office.
Our KS2 learning environment focuses on developing the whole child. Learning is differentiated and lessons are participatory, encouraging children to use practical skills and engage in problem solving activities. Our courtyard is often abuzz with the sounds of children working in small groups and carrying out special activities. Children are busy with a full range of specialist subjects to complement the core curriculum – the best of the English National Curriculum - taught by their classroom teachers. Art, Music, Library, Computers, PE, Swimming and French are all subjects which are part of the weekly schedule.
Phoenix places great value on the performing arts and children are encouraged to grow their self-confidence with regular appearances on stage – through class assemblies and participation in the two KS2 musical plays performed every year. Opportunities for drama, dance and singing are also provided through our full range of extra-curricular activities offered in the afternoons.
Field trips are an exciting part of school life and children in KS2 participate in a variety of field trips every year to destinations related to their learning experiences and curriculum topics. A full range of sporting opportunities promote fitness, develop skills and sportsmanship as well as encouraging children to feel proud of belonging to Phoenix.
Our KS2 years at Phoenix are designed to help each child develop his/her potential to become the confident, thoughtful and responsible individuals we are so proud of as they move on to high school.
